Why
Ireland?
Ireland
is an increasingly popular destination for students
from all over the world. The friendliness and hospitality for which
Irish people are renowned, contribute to the ease with which overseas
students adapt to the way of life and in particular, student life.
Ireland is a small independent nation situated on the West Coast
of Europe. It has been a member of the European Union (E.U.) Since
1973. Having developed from being a predominantly agricultural economy
in the 1950s Ireland is now a thoroughly modern nation with well
developed manufacturing and international services sectors and has
the highest economic growth rate in the E.U.- hence the title ‘Celtic
Tiger’. This transformation has been brought about through
investment in physical and technological infrastructure and by the
availability of a highly educated workforce.
Education
Environment
Ireland has a long and
honorable tradition in education. Responsibility for education lies
within the Department of Education and Science. It administers all
aspects of education policy including curricula, syllabi and national
examinations. Education is free in the vast majority of primary
and secondary schools, and at undergraduate third level, and is
compulsory from 6-15 years.
